India was under British rule for over more than 200 years. The freedom did not overcome easily. For which the sacrifice of fearless, courageous, revolutionaries was required. Many Indian Patriots sacrifice their lives to liberate India. One of them such great Patriots was Sukhdev. Who had given up everything for his country.


Sukhdev was a major revolutionary of the Indian freedom struggle. His full name was Sukhdev Thapar. He is among the greatest freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of their country. He was hanged along with Bhagat Singh and Shivaram Rajguru on 23rd March 1931 at the age of 23 years only. He was hanged by British government. His martyrdom is still seen with respect all over India and is remembered even today. Like Bhagat Singh childhood, he had dreamped of India's independence. Both of them were students of 'Lahore National College'. Both of them were born in the same year and were martyred together.

Sukhdev Thapar was born on 15th May 1907 in Ludhiana, Punjab. His father was Ramlal Thapar and the women who gave birth to this courageous man, her name was was Ralli Devi. He belong to a Punjabi Hindu community. Due to the death of his father 3 months before his birth his uncle (Tauji) Lala Achintram fully supported his mother in nurturing him. Sukhdev's Taiji also raised him like her own son.

Sukhdev was a member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) and other revolutionary cells in Punjab and other areas of North India.

Sukhdev participated in numerous revolutionary activities such as hunger strike in 1929; he is best known for his involvement in the association of Assistant Superintendent of Police, J.P. Saunders, on 17 December 1928 by Bhagat Singh and Shivaram Rajguru under taken in responses to the violent death of the veteran leader Lala Lajpat Rai.

Sukhdev was the prime accused in the Lahore Conspiracy Case of 1929, whose official title was "Crown versus Sukhdev and others". The first Information Report (FIR) of the case, fill by Hamilton. Harding Senior Superintendant of Police in the court of R.S. Pandit. The special Magistrate in April 1929, mentions Sukhdev as accused member 1. It describes him as Swami Alias villager, son of Ram Lal, caste Thapar Khatri. After the Central Assembly Hall bombings in New Delhi (8 April 1929). Sukhdev and his accomplices were arrested, convicted and sentenced to death.

On 23rd March 1931 copper was hand in Lahore Central Jail along with Bhagat Singh and Shivaram Rajguru. Their bodies were secretly cremated at the banks of river Sutlej. When Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev Thapar were only 23 years old.
